Whether
it’s protection from airborne contaminants, moisture or chemical corrosion,
potting/encapsulation thoroughly protects an assembly from and ruggedizes it for
extremely harsh environments. Encapsulation also serves to add strength and
integrity to applications such as filter element end caps, cable harnesses, and
mold making. Potting/encapsulation can also be used in certain instances for
proprietary applications (usually using epoxy resin) by totally
potting/encapsulating an assembly in epoxy resin. Reverse engineering is, for
the most part, impossible due to the destruction of the product and epoxy needed
to gain access. Don’t limit yourself to the above, as the
potting/encapsulation applications are too numerous to list here.
